Is there an age limit to the clients served at Elizabeth House?
Elizabeth House provides services to young parents of any age provided their children are between the ages of 0 and 5 years. Many of the young parents are adolescent parents. Clients in the School program must be eligible to attend a Youth sector English school.
Is there a time limit to the services offered?
No. Services are provided on an individualized basis according to need. As long as a client continues to need and can continue to benefit from services, they will be offered. Individual intervention plans are made with each client outlining goals and strategies and are reviewed on a regular basis.
Who is eligible to attend the School program in the Day Centre?
The school program is open to pregnant teens and young mothers who are entitled to an English language eligibility certificate and who are either:
17 years of age and younger.
18 years of age with the possibility of completing their high school diploma (or program leading to a vocational or skills program) in one year. These clients must have been registered in a Youth sector school in September of the previous year for which they are registering.
Is there a cost to the services at Elizabeth House?
There is no cost for external services.
There may or may not be a cost for residential services depending on the client’s financial situation. Upon admission, clients complete a registration form which is forwarded to the Bureau d'hébérgement which will determine if any contribution is necessary. Clients with limited (i.e. who receive Social Assistance) or no income do not pay for services and, in fact, are eligible to receive $151.00 per month from the Bureau d’hébéergement
Do clients who are receiving Social Assistance continue to receive these monies once they have been admitted to Elizabeth House?
NO! Clients continue to receive their social assistance for the month in which they are admitted. Example: Mary has been living in her own apartment and receiving social welfare. She is admitted to Elizabeth House on September 21. She is eligible to receive social welfare for the month of September. As of October 1, Mary will only be eligible to receive monies ($151.00 per month) from the Bureau d’hébérgement
Should Mary receive a welfare check for the month of October, ( i.e. the Bureau d’hébérgement did not have time to process the admission and notify Social Welfare) she will be required to pay back the difference between the amount of welfare she received and the amount she is entitled to from the Bureau d’hébérgement.
